Metabolic Health & Preventative Medicine in Sydney
| Sonia Savage, Functional Nutritionist
You do not just want to live a long time. You want to live well, with a sharp mind and a strong body, right into your 80s, 90s and beyond. So much of how we age is shaped by what we do now. This is preventative medicine at its best: getting ahead of chronic illness long before it appears, so you can keep doing the things you love for as long as possible. A healthy weight range and metabolic health is key to achieving these goals.

Living Well, Not Just Living Long
I am passionate about living well, not simply living for a long time, and I have no time for gimmicks or the "bio-hacker" hype. Real longevity comes from the fundamentals, backed by good-quality, long-term research: a diverse, mainly wholefood diet, good sleep, movement, social connection, managing stress, and avoiding unnecessary toxins. There is so much we can learn from the Blue Zones, and from simply paying attention to how we source, prepare and eat our food.
Getting Ahead of What Matters
Clinically, I focus on getting ahead of the things that erode quality of life as we age: cognitive decline, cardiovascular disease, blood-sugar and metabolic problems, and cancer risk. That starts with a proper baseline: your bloods are reviewed against optimal ranges, and where genuinely useful, your genetics, which can flag tendencies worth acting on early. Chronic illness is ten to twenty years in the making, which means now is exactly the time to change its trajectory.

Sonia has been an absolute godsend for my health. Sonia saw me through a healthy pregnancy, and I credit her care and advice throughout and now for how well I feel postpartum. I love Sonia’s treatment approach, carefully considering my DNA profile along with any other tests to ensure I’m actually taking the correct supplements and proper nutrition. Sonia also explains everything thoroughly; she’s very warm and very professional. I was so grateful to be referred to a practitioner of Sonia’s calibre, with a strong background in interpreting DNA profiles and working with MTHFR mutations. Sonia’s also been helping with my toddler’s constipation issues, and has started treating my husband too. I hope Sonia will be keeping me and my family in good health for years to come. I highly recommend Sonia!

Frequently Asked Questions
What is metabolic health and preventative nutrition, really?
It is evidence-based nutrition and lifestyle aimed at keeping you well for as long as possible, supporting a healthy weight range, protecting cognition, cardiovascular health and blood-sugar metabolism, and reducing chronic-disease risk. It is not about hacks or extremes; it is the fundamentals, done consistently and tailored to you.
I feel fine. Why would I come now?
Because chronic illness is usually ten to twenty years in the making. Getting a clear baseline while you feel well is exactly how you stay well, and it means we can act early on anything trending the wrong way.
I'm on or considering a GLP-1 medication — can you help with that?
Yes. I work alongside your prescribing doctor to optimise your nutrition to support digestion, muscle preservation and satiety. I will also review movement and lifestyle to protect your metabolic rate and increase your long-term chance of success.
Do I need genetic testing?
Not necessarily. Bloods read against optimal ranges are remarkably informative. Genetic testing is worth considering where there is significant family history, for example dementia or cardiovascular disease, because those conditions develop slowly and there may be things you can do early.
Is this just for older people?
No. The earlier you build good foundations, the better, though it is never too late to start. Midlife is a particularly valuable time to get a baseline, as this is when several markers can begin to shift.
Do you offer online consultations?
Yes. I consult online worldwide, with in-person appointments available in Sydney.
